Indians spend 3 hours 18 minutes a day on their smartphones – Ericsson Report on Indian Mobile Market

Ericsson ConsumerLab Insights has a report on the usage of apps & smartphones in India and how it is changing the Indian consumers smartphone habits and expectations about mobile broadband performance. The study was carried out in April-June 2014 among 4000 smartphone users across 18 urban cities in India. Some of the findings of the study are

1) 1/4 of users check their phones over 100 times daily.

2) Indians spend 3 hours 18 minutes a day on their smartphones.

3) 1/3 of this time is spent using apps, a 63% increase in the last 2 years

4) 68% of all mobile minutes on smartphones are used at home

5) Half of all mobile broadband issues faced by users occur while they are indoors in dense urban cities.

6) 76% of existing mobile broadband users are willing to pay more for a guaranteed better mobile internet experience.

Salman Khan has launched the mobile game based on the upcoming movie “Kick”. Bollywood has embraced the concept of mobile games for movies which help movies & its stars to connect easily with the audience. Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone Launched in India at an Insane price of Rs 14,999

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi Mi3 in India at an insane price of Rs 14,999. Pre-registartions for the phone is available from july 15th onwards & at this price level it has created a great interest in the mobile market. The tech specs & hardware of the phone is available in some high end phones like Nexus 5, Sony xperia z & others at a high price point.

It has a 5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor@2.3GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB of memory, a 13-MP camera & a dual-LED flash. It runs on Android jelly bean 4.2 with a customized MIUI on top. Xiaomi’s phones have been sold out in countries where it was launched earlier in a short time span & one has to register early to have a hands on the phone. It recently hired Jabong’s co-founder Manu Jain as the head of operations in India. With Android L to be launched in the coming months, will Xiaomi provide regular Andorid updates..?

Guardians of the Skies – Indian Air Force(IAF) launches Mobile 3D Game

Indian Air Force has launched the 1st official 3D mobile game called the “GUARDIANS OF THE SKIES”. Through this game, IAF, plans to encourage boys & Girls of the country to join IAF & serve the country. This is the first Campaign based air combat game on android mobile platform and has the most elaborate collection of flying missions. The game features Zaruzia, a country planning to wage war on India and features the SU 30, M2000, Tejas, Phalcon AWACS, C130, Mi 17, Mi 35 and ALH Dhruv aircraft.

This is a very good move by IAF by utilizing the mobile platform to reach & encourage the youths. The Guardians runs on configuration above 1Ghz dual core with 1 GB RAM. Currently, 3D mobile Game Guardians of the Skies is only available on Android. Windows Phone will get it on 15th July, and the iOS release is planned for later.

Walmart India has launched Best Price Modern Wholesale in India. This is a B2B ecommerce format operated by Walmart India Pvt ltd. This venture would help Walmart provide thousands of items at the lowest prices. This is targeted at resellers, offices, hotels & others. The products include dairy, vegetables, electronics & others. This is curently available in Lucknow & Hyderabad.

Walmart would source these items locally from manufactures keeping the cost minimum. Walmart India currently operates 20 Best Price Modern Wholesale stores in 9 states across India & the first wholesale Cash and Carry store was opened in Amritsar in May 2009. Ordering online, door-step delivery within 24 hours and various payment solutions are available.

India has the lowest average Internet speed in Asia-Pacific – Akamai State of the Internet Report 2014

Akamai has released the state of the internet Report for Q1 2014. Some of the imnportant findings of the report are

1) South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong have a top position globally & regionally while India had the lowest at 1.7 Mbps.

2) In terms of mobile connectivity, in the Asia-Pacific region, Japan had the highest average connection speed at 5.7 Mbps, while India had the lowest at 1.3 Mbps

3) In the Americas, the US had the highest average connection speed at 10.5 Mbps, while Bolivia had the lowest at 0.9 Mbps.

4) In the EMEA region Switzerland has 12.7 Mbps, while South Africa had the lowest peak connection speed at 10 Mbps.
