Google Overtakes Apple to become the World’s Top brand

Google has overtaken Apple to become the world’s largest Brand as per the latest Brand report from MillwardBrown. Apple & Google are fighting over several areas & Google has overtaken Apple in the brand value. As per the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands Google’s brand value stands at $158.84 million, an increase of 40% YTY. Apple, which has been topping the list, for the last 3 years saw its value decline by 20% to $147.88 million. IBM, Microsoft are in the next 2 places. The BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2014 added $310 billion to reach $2.9 trillion in brand value, a 12% increase YTY

Apparel has led all categories in overall brand value growth with a 29% rise. Only 18 of the Top 100 brands have lost value this year. Tencent, the Chinese social network and Internet portal, led the list of fastest risers with a 97% increase in brand value, overtaking China Mobile as China’s most valuable brand.Twitter and LinkedIn entered the Top 100 for the first time, at numbers 71 and 78, respectively. Amazon entered the Top 10 at number 10, the first retailer to achieve this distinction.

Which are the Most Profitable Software Companies in the World?

Global software revenue has totalled $407.3 billion in 2013 as per the report from Gartner. This is a 4.8% increase from 2012. Microsoft is at the top of the chart with revenue of $65.7 Billion with a growth rate of 6%. Oracle is at 2nd spot with $29.6 billion & captures 7.3% of the market. SMAC (social media, mobile, analytics & cloud) is rapidly changing the way business operate & software companies addressing the new technologies. Salesforce.com has the highest growth among the top 10 vendors at 33.3%. Some of the other companies in the list are IBM, SAP, Symantac, EMC, HP & others. HP & CA tachnologies have a negative growth rate of 2.7% & 2.6% respectively.

IBM Watson Mobile Developer Challenge – Watson Powered Apps

At the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, IBM CEO announced about the IBM Watson Mobile Developer Challenge. You can submit the proposal at the IBM Watson Mobile Developer Challenge webpage. Developers submit their proposals & their plans for a new Watson powered mobile app. It will be judged by a panel of judges & 25 finalists receive access to Watson APIs to build working prototypes.From this, top 5 finalists will pitch their concepts in a live session. 3 winners will have IBM mentoring support and sandbox access to build the Watson powered app. Watson won Jeopardy in 2011 & mobile apps can take advantage of Watson’s cognitive computing capabilities to develop smarter apps.

Apple has gained the top spot in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands report. Coco-Cola, which has been in top spot for the last 13 years, has taken the 3rd spot. Google is in 2nd position.
