Global software revenue has totalled $407.3 billion in 2013 as per the report from Gartner. This is a 4.8% increase from 2012. Microsoft is at the top of the chart with revenue of $65.7 Billion with a growth rate of 6%. Oracle is at 2nd spot with $29.6 billion & captures 7.3% of the market. SMAC (social media, mobile, analytics & cloud) is rapidly changing the way business operate & software companies addressing the new technologies. Salesforce.com has the highest growth among the top 10 vendors at 33.3%. Some of the other companies in the list are IBM, SAP, Symantac, EMC, HP & others. HP & CA tachnologies have a negative growth rate of 2.7% & 2.6% respectively.

Social Sign ins help users to sign in to a 3rd party website using their existing social media or email logins. With the growth of internet & social media/networking, registration required for all the sites is a tedious process. It takes a lot of time & also to have different user name/logins. In such a case, social sign ins come into picture. Facebook is the top such log in used at 45% followed by Google at 33%. Other companies, like Microsoft, yahoo, linkedin, twitter account for just above 20 percent of social sign ins. Both Google & Facebook account for around 78% of such social logins.

Apple has gained the top spot in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands report. Coco-Cola, which has been in top spot for the last 13 years, has taken the 3rd spot. Google is in 2nd position. This is for the first time in the report that Coco-Cola is not in the top spot. Apple has seen a phenomenal growth in the last few years thanks to iPhone & ipad sales. Many tech companies like IBM, Microsoft, Intel are in the top 10 list.

This report is published annually identifying top 100 best global brands. This year, the total value of all 100 Best Global Brands is USD $1.5 trillion. Apple, which was in #36 position in 2000 with a brand value of $6.6 Billion is now at #1 position with $98.3 Billion. Interbrand’s Best Global Brands methodology is ISO certified & has become a benchmark for the best global brands. Discovery, Duracell, Chevrolet are the new entrants for this year. comScore has released the list of top 50 U.S web properties, top 10 site categories, Top 30 Syndicated Ad Focus Entities & other details in its monthly ranking of U.S. web activity. Google sites, Yahoo sites, Microsoft sites & Facebook are the top 4 sites with highest unique visitors. Some others in the list include AOL, Amazon sites & Glam Media.

Among the site categories, gay/lesbian, retail (fragrences/cosmetics) & services (IM’s) occupy the top 3 position. Gay/Lesbian has seen a 10% increase with the pride month in June. Samsung which is competing with Apple in the global smartphone race is at 30th spot with +51% growth. Microsoft Internet Explorer India has launched an app called #Shovel, which analyses your Facebook profile & provides a wide range of statistics about your profile. There is also contest on twitter where you can answer the questions based on your #shovel results & win exciting prizes. These programs are part of their promotions for IE10 Browser. These apps are best designed to work on IE10. Internet Explorer India is showcasing “Social life- re imagined by Internet Explorer.”

With high competition in the browser space among Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer has gone for a social media based promotion to highlight their browser. You can click on ‘Start digging’ on the home page of the app to start with Shovel. The app gives you the stats on your Photos, Tags, Friends, Likes and Updates. I did try the app for my profile & the app returned a wonderful stats on friends who are tagged, how many pics you have been tagged, friends based on geos, the number of likes on your photos, likes done by you & other information.
